Over the past several weeks, your Elders have been praying for unity and guidance from God in next steps at Legacy. We have unanimously affirmed that Legacy is an Elder-led church meaning that the authority and responsibility of oversight rest with the Elders. We have also unanimously affirmed that Legacy operates and will continue to operate using a Senior Pastor model. Our bylaws are very specific in how we must select a person to fill the role of Senior Pastor on a permanent basis. It is a three-step process: 1) a Nomination Committee of 5-9 members representing a cross section of the membership must put forward their recommended candidate to the Elders. 2) The Elders review the recommendation. If the Elders are in agreement, they then put forward the candidate to the congregation. 3) The candidate must receive 80% of the vote from the membership at the meeting in order to be called as the Senior Pastor.
The Elders have unanimously agreed that now is the time to move forward with establishing a Nomination Committee. We are inviting the hand of God in the selection of members for this committee. We have adopted the following procedure in selecting the Nomination Committee:
The Nomination Committee will be free to consider qualified candidates for Senior Pastor from both within and outside of Legacy. The criteria that will be used in this search is that candidates must:
So, starting today and ending Sunday November 25th, there will be a Nomination Committee Box and some paper and pens at Connecting Point. We ask you to prayerfully consider those members who might be appropriate to serve on the Nomination Committee. Please write the name or names down (you can suggest more than one) and place them in the box and we will collect those and put them into the process. I realize that we have provided a lot of information in this announcement. As such, we will make this announcement available in writing at Connecting Point as well as on the website under the “Events” tab under “Stuff you Should Know”.
We thank you for your patience in getting to this point and ask for your continued prayer through this process. In the meantime, we will continue to worship God, reach the next generation of believers, build faith and send all to partner with the Holy Spirit in God’s great work of redemption and healing.
